Compal Electronics announced that it has inked a deal with Toshiba to buy the latter's LCD TV assembly plant, Toshiba Television Central Europe, in Wroclaw, Poland, for a maximum of NT$734 million (US$24.95 million; US$1=NT$29.416), according to Taiwan's United Daily News on October 29. The transaction will be carried out through Compal's subsidiary, and will be completed by the first quarter of 2014. After the acquisition, Toshiba will continue to supply the European market with LCD TVs made at the plant. This year Toshiba's overall LCD TV shipment volume is estimated to reach 10 million units, with most of them contract manufactured by Compal.
